Before the food reaches our clients, many volunteers are hard at work from Monday to Saturday.
Collecting the goods
Our drivers and their co-drivers are out with the Tafel van every day, collecting goods that are brought to the Tafel refrigerated. A first round of sorting already happens along the way – because, like every household in Kürten, the Tafel has to pay for its waste. When other Tafel branches have surplus, we collect it in Köln, Bergisch Gladbach, Gummersbach, Rösrath or Dormagen.
Sorting
Before the goods go into cold storage, they are sorted. This takes a great deal of time, as much of the food is packaged – and only the best reaches our clients. Six volunteers are on hand for this every day.
Food distribution
On Thursday, our distribution day, the food is sorted once more and divided between the two groups so that our clients in each group find the same selection on offer.
